Deerfield Beach Community Cares is an organization focused on helping youth, adults, and families to identify and address personal and community issues that affect the quality of life in Deerfield Beach. The city is a diverse community that has experienced significant loss, including several suicides. This raises the question of whether there is a lack of an effective behavioral health system of care. Some youth and families distrust traditional therapeutic services, often reporting that they feel stigma when seeking assistance. The impact of community trauma, systemic racism and economic and environmental pressures certainly play a role in the mental health of residents. The goal of Deerfield Beach Community Cares is to join with community leaders to help create a resident-led approach to solving the community’s most complex quality of life issues, neighborhood by neighborhood.
