Travel Policy Development

CANY is eager to partner with a skilled volunteer to develop an organizational travel policy that complies with New York State Office of the State Comptroller Travel Manual and applicable IRS rules. CANY's staff travel at least once per month and we need a clear policy that gives staff members confidence about what the rules are and provides for streamlined accounting and contract reimbursement.

CANY has recently received an unprecedented new investment in its prison oversight mission from the state. While this new investment will allow for increased capacity and impact, it also comes with increased oversight from our funding agencies. Developing this policy will allow us to focus on our crucial prison oversight because it will empower staff with answers to common questions about how to arrange, pay for, and seek reimbursement for work-related travel.

We already have some good systems in place and we have a very knowledgeable fiscal consultant. We have the relevant manuals and materials from government agencies and we will make staff fully available to support the policy development.
